Most of us have passed by a construction site and have found workers toiling without any protective equipment, like gloves, helmets, or work boots. The scene turns rather gruesome if you visit a demolition site. Workers can be seen razing those high walls with mere mallets.
The article focuses on the state of labour rights as assessed through newly released Labour Force Survey 2018 (launched in January 2019). Under GSP+, Pakistan is required to protect and promote fundamental labour rights. The article gives an overview of the state of labour rights during the first five years of GSP+(2014-18) and recommends focus on implementation and collection of relevant data. The article is quite relevant since no article or study has been published so far to analyse the labour rights in the country after 5 years of GSP+.
